About STIHL AK System Tools
At Ripon Ground Care, we supply the full range of STIHL cordless tools. The AK System range of machines includes cordless lawnmowers, hedge cutters, chainsaws, leaf blowers and more designed for homeowners with medium to large sized gardens.
The AK System batteries are all the same size and therefore fit into all AK System tools, however the larger capacity batteries are recommended for certain tools to ensure full performance.
This means once you own a charger and batteries, it's easy to expand your product collection and use your existing batteries.

STIHL Battery FAQs
Battery tools are generally lighter, quieter and have less vibration than petrol tools, whilst also having zero emissions at the point of use for a better working environment. Maintenance is often simplified too, with fewer filters and components requiring regular attention. Finally, the running costs are significantly lower when comparing the price of petrol and electricity, making them an economic choice for professionals.
STIHL batteries benefit from constant power output, meaning the performance stays consistently high all the way through the charge, unlike other battery types. Many AP System batteries also feature Connectivity, allowing the user to gather valuable information about their fleet of battery tools.
Using chainsaws as an example, the wood type (hard / soft), diameter, chain tension, chain condition, power setting and feed pressure are all factors that can impact working time. Quoted working times should be used as a guide only.
AP System batteries are IPX4 rated and can be used in wet weather. AK, AS and AI batteries should not be used in the rain.
Batteries should be stored separate to the tool in a secure and dry location, away from direct sunlight and children. The optimum charge level for STIHL batteries in long term storage is 40-60%. The maximum temperature range is between -10°C and 50°C.
Batteries require an ambient temperature of above 5°C to charge. The battery is fully charged when all 4 LED lights turn off. Only the AL 301-4 multi-charger is certified for charging in a moving vehicle.
All STIHL batteries use high quality and long-lasting lithium-ion cells for a long service life. AP System batteries with round cells can be fully re-charged up to 1,200 times, while the AP 500 S utilises laminate cells which can be recharged up to 2,400 times.
